I’m living my best life as a digital nomad advocating for great work culture - oh, and I really like bread.
What I value
Empathy over Sympathy
It’s one thing to say you care, and it’s another thing to take action. Sympathy passes by with a regretful expression. Empathy stops and extends a hand.
Work to live, don’t live to work.
My job is important, but it has its place in my life. Work will never own me but instead, empower me to live adventurously and generously.
We are all users.
Of our jobs, our daily routines, and our individual lives. Therefore, the question is always on my mind: “How can I improve the user experiences of myself and those around me?”
Be Flexible
Having a plan and set processes is important. Even more important is being able to adapt those plans and processes to fit your situations. Sometimes, the only constant is change, and I’ve learned to embrace that.
Design is a way of life
Our problem-solving skillsets shouldn’t be restricted to our 9-5. I iterate on cleaning dishes, redesign my daily schedules, and always ask “why” in conflict resolution. 10/10 would recommend.
I've recently been learning about…
Accessibility
I want my designs to be accessible - plain and simple. Well, maybe not so simple. But necessary.
To take action in this area, I've taken the edX "Intro to Web Accessibility Course" and have begun exploring and compiling resources for accessibility - from Youtube videos to podcasts to LinkedIn creators.
Coding
I wanted to 10x my collaboration with developers. But I didn't code. Yet.
So I gave myself a crash course in code by taking PG Gonni's "Intro to Coding for Designers" course. He introduced me to the basic concepts and practices of HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Tailwind CSS.
Languages
Particularly Spanish. I spent 8 months traveling in Central and South America, plus Mexico. So I had a great reason to learn the language.
I took a couple of classes at the Instituto de Cervantes in Chicago, but my learning increased exponentially when I was tutored 1-on-1 in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Content Creation
Sharing knowledge isn't easy. It requires intentionality, transparency, communication skills, and a lot of effort.
I started creating video content a couple of years ago, and this year pivoted to focus on written content on LinkedIn. I focus on being genuine and sharing content that I, myself, would find helpful to receive.
